Our Training Philosophy
DP World Institute Philosophy
DP World Institute is focused on delivering outcomes to individuals and organisations. We understand what it takes to achieve high performance and use the best available methods, tools, expertise and resources to guide and support you on your journey.
Many education and training providers will offer courses in a particular format such as distance learning or taught programmes. At DP World Institute we understand that learner achievement is more important than an instructor’s good intentions and familiar toolkit. We design our programmes at the outset by carefully selecting the appropriate resources and methodologies to enable the best outcomes for today’s busy professionals. We do what works, in the right way, and then improve – every time. Often this results in a blended learning programme which has the added benefit of delivering an engaging experience to participants with varied learning styles.
What is Blended Learning?
Blended learning makes use of the best available resources: whether it’s the latest digital platforms and multi-media content; or traditional instruction and assessment tools and delivers learning in a structured programme that is easy to follow. Blended learning enables participants to study alongside work and family commitments and apply their learning immediately in the workplace, often supported by tried and tested tools.
How does this work in practice?
Take a module on container terminal yard operations as an example: participants acquire the underpinning theory and key issues in yard performance via workbooks, case studies, online units including video, audio and animation, followed by self-assessment questions and formal assessment. There are workplace research activities and evaluation tools to reinforce the learning. Further group work will be undertaken at the tutorial seminars, followed by business simulation games whereby learners can evaluate the dynamic effects of their actions and decisions on yard performance and the terminal as a system. Finally an integrative ‘Business Improvement Project’ guides participants to consolidate their learning in their own workplace, backed up by practical tools to support their continued management career.
Course materials are developed by leading academics, consultants and practitioners and the Course Director and faculty of real-world experts are always on hand to offer support and guidance.
Expert solutions for the real world
This approach has served us well over the years and supported operations at over 65 marine terminals in all corners of the world, where performance and service are paramount. We understand the most critical component to achieve this is our people – their commitment, knowledge and skills.
